What Starter does not include

Scheduling is the one to look at hardest. Most people shopping this category are buying a way for a client to enquire, book a call and sign a contract without a chain of emails. On Starter the booking step is missing, which for a coach, consultant or photographer removes a large part of the point.

Read Starter as invoicing and contracts for a business that books by email. If that is you, it is a genuinely cheap $335. If it is not, your real price is $525.

The $190 that decides it

The gap between the plans is $190 a year — about $16 a month. Against what it unlocks, that is a small number.

One booked client covers the difference several times over in most service businesses. The question is not whether $190 is affordable — it is whether you genuinely book by email.

Two things Dubsado does not publish

1. The monthly price. The page states that choosing annual saves two months, which implies a monthly rate exists, but it is not shown. If you want to trial the business model before committing a year, ask for it directly.
2. Payment processing rates. Dubsado does not process payments itself — you connect your own Stripe or PayPal account, so your rate is whatever they charge you. That is worth knowing when comparing against platforms that build processing into the product.

The second point matters more than it looks. On a business with high-ticket work, the processing line is typically larger than the subscription line, and Dubsado’s model means that cost sits outside this page entirely. It is not hidden — it is simply someone else’s bill.

Dubsado against HoneyBook

These two are the default shortlist for service businesses, and they are closer than most comparisons suggest.

At entry they are $13 apart, and HoneyBook includes a scheduling session that Dubsado does not. At the middle tier Dubsado is $63 cheaper and gives unlimited lead forms against ten.

The real structural difference is payments. HoneyBook publishes its rates and processes in-house; Dubsado leaves you with your own provider. How to pay less for Dubsado

1. Be honest about scheduling. It is the only feature difference that changes how you work day to day. If clients book time with you, Starter is a false economy.
2. Use the 21-day trial properly. It gives full Premier access, so build your actual workflow in it — then you will know whether you need Premier before you pay for anything.
3. Ask for the monthly rate if you want to test a season before committing. It is not published, which does not mean it is unavailable.
4. Price your own Stripe rate into the comparison. On high-ticket work it is usually the larger number, and it does not appear on this page.
5. Do not pay for a top tier that does not exist. Dubsado has two plans; there is no upsell above Premier, which makes the ceiling easy to budget.
